The type of personal information we collect
We collect personal information only if you choose to take part in the leaderboards in Tidy Up the Town, described below. We collect nothing else from our games or this website.
Leaderboards in Tidy Up the Town
The first time you start the game, it asks whether you want to join the leaderboards. Nothing is sent unless you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings > Privacy.
What is sent when you finish a run
- The display name you chose.
- Your results: steps taken, play time, spells cast, Quicksteps used, magicka spent, goods put away, whether the run was a Full run (one that also restored a hidden part of the market), whether it was a No Magic run (finished without casting a spell or buying an upgrade), and which board the run belongs to.
- A random number identifying the run, and a random number identifying your copy of the game (we store only a one-way hash of it).
- The game version and your platform (Windows, Mac or Linux).
- Your IP address, which reaches us because your game connects to our server.
- If you play through Steam: a one-time Steam sign-in ticket, which we check with Valve to learn your Steam ID.
Nothing else is ever sent: no hardware or device identifiers, no save files, no settings, no analytics and no advertising data.
Steam leaderboards
If you play through Steam, taking part also puts your best runs on Steam's own leaderboards for this game, under your Steam name, so your Steam friends can see them. We store your Steam ID with your runs so we can keep your Steam entries in step with ours and remove them when you delete your data. What Steam shows, and your Steam profile, are handled by Valve under its own privacy policy. If you do not play through Steam, nothing is sent to or about Steam.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your name and results to show the leaderboards, on the basis of your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
We use your IP address only to prevent abuse: limiting how often runs can be submitted, and blocking cheating. This is in our legitimate interest in keeping the leaderboards fair (Article 6(1)(f)). We never store your IP address as it is: we keep a keyed one-way hash of it.
Fair play
We may remove entries, and block a copy of the game or an IP address from appearing on the leaderboards, where we believe a run was cheated or the leaderboards are being abused. These decisions are made by a person, not automatically, and a removal or block may not be visible to you in the game.
How long we keep it
- Your entries are kept until you delete them, or until we remove them.
- The hash of your IP address is deleted 30 days after each run, unless that address has been blocked.
- Entries we remove are deleted permanently after 30 days.
- Blocks are kept until lifted, and reviewed at least once a year.
Leaving and deleting your data
In the game, open Settings > Privacy. Turning off the leaderboards stops anything more being sent. Delete my leaderboard data erases every entry from your copy of the game straight away.
If you can no longer use the game, email hello@pawsmonaut.games with the display name you used and roughly when you played, and we will delete your entries. If you can, include your leaderboard ID: it is shown in Settings > Privacy, and is also kept in the file leaderboard.cfg in the game's save folder, which stays on your computer after the game is uninstalled:
- Windows: %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\TidyUpTheTown
- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Godot/app_userdata/TidyUpTheTown
- Linux: ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/TidyUpTheTown
Without the ID, we may ask for a detail of one of your runs, such as its number of steps, to make sure the entries are yours before we delete them.
Deleting your data also removes your entries from Steam's leaderboards for this game, and we forget your Steam ID.
After a deletion we keep only any block that applied to you, which holds no name or results.
Who handles it for us
The leaderboards run on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.), which acts as our processor under a data processing agreement. Leaderboard data is stored in the European Union. Where Cloudflare processes data outside the UK, the transfer is covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Children
If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before joining the leaderboards.
